Hey guys so I've just seen Coraline for the first time. Don't think I went by myself now, I did go with my cousin. But the reason I'm saying this is because this movie is so good in my opinion. Like I know there are people out there who are saying its just another kid movie, but the fact is it's really not. It is a good movie to take you kids, brothers, or sisters to. It has things for every one. But the movie is rated PG-13 I believe for language and some content, but its not that mild for children to see and hear.
I have been anticipating this movie since I've seen the trailer premier when I went to see Beowulf. The movie is basically base on the Neil Gaiman's "Coraline" book, at first I was a little sketchy because I didn't know who he was at first. But then I decided to read the book to see for myself if the movie was going to be any good. My gosh you guys "Coraline" is a must read. That and the "Graveyard Book" which is an other book written by Gaiman, out now I believe.
Any who so after seeing Coraline on opening day, I have become completely obsessed with the movie. so i decided to research it for a while and found out from what I read that it took about 3 years to make this movie. from hiring great puppeteers to the world greatest and possibly only miniature knitter. For those who have seen the movie or just the trailers, if you seen the part were Coraline is in a sweater with little stars on it. That sweater was literally knitted by hand, The woman who made it ,is probably the worlds only miniature knitter who knits with needles almost the size human hair that to me is truly amazing. For the fact that i knit, But only scarfs :P . She made just about every sweater in the movie, even a pair of tiny gloves. Also in the movie if you seen previews, the garden scene. The garden is is full of beautiful and unusual flowers. That are all made to light up in the form of Coraline's face. There are trees made of popcorn which are painted to resemble cherry blossoms, and a theater full of hand made Scottie dog. Can you imagine making all those dogs wow I would have been tearing my hair out.
Coraline was directed by Henry Selick who i think directed "The Nightmare Before Christmas". Selick cast consist of Dakota Fanning who plays Coraline, Teri Hatcher Who plays Coraline's mother and other mother(who is an actress in the nomie winning show "Desparet Housewives, She plays the really dorky one), Robert Bailey Jr. who is Wybie in the movie, even down to I think his family who played small parts in the movie(like friends and ghost). The movie was made by the crew at LAIKA studios, which are the people who were in charge of the Mac\PC holiday Commercials. Great job guys give your self a pat on the back.
Coraline is basically a work of genius for the way it was written, Even more so a work of creative genius for the way Henry Selick decided to create the movie. If your an Alice in wonderland fan this Coraline would definitely remind you of Alice. Really because of the flowers and talking cat in the movie.
In my opinion I love the movie for some of the items used in Coraline. Like the topic using the buttons and sewing needles, because I am deeply in love with sewing. Other reason I enjoy watching Coraline, is the garden which is very amazing and the Bobinsky Jumping Mice Circus. You got to love the circus especially when little mice are dressed up and playing instruments. So please go see this movie, It is really good. Like they say in the previews on T.V. "an instant Oscar classic." I like you give this movie two thumbs up a must see for anyone. Go with friend(s), take your mom, your dad, sisters, brothers, take your pets, take your gold fish just go see it.
